Thank U, Next

The widely known 25 year old Ariana Grande came out with her new music video last Friday, and it kind of broke the internet...with a whopping 112 million views (in only 4 days). This song of hers had already had much hype about it before fans even knew a video would be in place for this. In this song she mentions all of her exes then goes on to say how she does not need anyone but herself. The video was a huge hit because along with the stars fame she incorporated 4 of the most iconic movies (my own opinion along with most of her fans). She had played off Mean Girls, Bring it On, Legally Blonde, and 13 Going on 30. Not only that but she too had multiple star cameos one of the most famous being Kris Jenner.
The role media had on this video definitely played a huge part. We look to the internet and see whats cool or not and what she had used all fit what viewers love. The video was especially highly anticipated after the star had released the first 30 to 45 seconds of it which was well known stars/you-tubers saying popular false rumors that had been circulating around the media for awhile. This was definitely what had built up some of the videos fame already. Other than that I really like what Ariana had put out there. It was a perfect anthem of self love which many people seem to struggle with. People tend to think they need someone or something to make them feel accepted but in reality all we need it to accept ourselves. Which is exactly what Ariana preaches about, one of her lines being, "She taught me love she taught me patients how she handles the pain that sh*ts amazing,"and she is referring to herself. What she sings about sends all the right messages to girls young and old and I hope this song has a high impact on every girl.

As mentioned before the star had displayed the most 4 iconic movies within her video, which I would  say contributed to the singers videos success. The movie that had played one of the more popular and better known ones was Mean Girls. This was a movie made in 2004 and still remains relevancy today. Which I think really says something considering it is 14 years old. The reason to this I would say is because it may have been made a long time ago but the topics it discusses still remain relevant. Sure in the movie it was more of an extreme case but that it what made it so good. But it has stayed a popular media item because of it, just like these other movies. They were all so true and taught us some valuable lessons. Overall this video was a huge success and multiple forms of media had supported it to 'break the internet'.

  1. I also made one of my entries about this music video and its massive impact. I think your points are really good and I agree with you about the song really emphasizing on self love. I think this is something that we need to see more of in today's media, especially when it surrounds exes. Hopefully, more artists will follow her lead and some of the bitterness will be taken away from the discussion around exes and past relationships.

  2. I saw this video and enjoyed it because Ariana is setting a good example of how women don't need men to feel or get happiness.Although it showed an important message about being independent is was also very entertaining and I have no doubt 112 million views in 4 days. I also agree with you that it gained a lot of its success over the movies that were used in the video.
